Uruguay expands aerospace and critical systems technology capacity

Uruguay is strengthening its position as a regional technological hub through new aerospace and critical systems infrastructure.

Epic Aerospace has inaugurated new facilities in Zonamerica, Montevideo, designed for the manufacturing, assembly, integration, and testing of space vehicles. The plant includes a 300 kN vibration testing system capable of testing satellite devices weighing up to 2,500 kilograms. The expansion aims to integrate Uruguay into high-value technological supply chains.

Additionally, the Spanish company Indra Group has established the Strategic Center for the Operation of Critical Systems for the Southern Cone. Located at Air Base No. 1 near Carrasco Airport, the center provides engineering, diagnostic, repair, and maintenance support for civil and military systems in Uruguay, Argentina, Chile, and Paraguay. This facility is part of a broader effort to reduce reliance on foreign technical services and foster local expertise through knowledge transfer and cooperation with universities.
