Uruguay expands housing initiatives to drive regional development
Housing initiatives in Uruguay are being utilized to drive territorial development and strengthen rural communities. In the department of Salto, a new MEVIR Integral Plan aims to provide housing, productive infrastructure, and property titles in several localities, including Campo de Todos, Laureles, Sarandí de Arapey, Masoller, Cuchilla de Guaviyú, Russo, and Guaviyú de Arapey.
Simultaneously, the Centro Cooperativista Uruguayo (CCU) is expanding its presence in the coastal region by promoting high-rise construction and the ‘prior savings’ modality. This system is designed to assist families with rotating work schedules who may not be able to participate in mutual aid construction projects. A notable project is underway in Guichón, where the Líber Seregni cooperative is beginning construction on a 29-apartment building. Additionally, the CCU recently advised the 21 de Setiembre cooperative in Paysandú on the completion of 35 homes.
