Latin American health ministries expand vaccination and preventive care programs

Various Latin American health ministries are expanding preventive care and vaccination campaigns. In Uruguay, Minister of Public Health Cristina Lustemberg announced the expansion of the meningococcal vaccination campaign to include children aged 6 to 15. This move follows an unusual increase in meningococcal disease cases. Access methods vary by department, with some requiring digital appointments and others allowing walk-ins.

In Argentina, health authorities are addressing vaccination coverage. In Entre Ríos and Chubut, the vaccination campaign against Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) has been extended until September 30 to protect pregnant women and newborns due to increased viral circulation. Additionally, health educators in Jujuy are receiving tools to strengthen community outreach, including work within the penitentiary service.

In Paraguay, the Ministry of Public Health has launched the ‘Caries Cero’ program, providing dental education and hygiene kits to students in various schools to prevent oral diseases. Meanwhile, in Panama, health officials in Los Santos are conducting educational sessions on mental health, cardiovascular disease, and respiratory prevention.
