Uruguay extends school feeding services to student holidays
Uruguay is extending its school feeding program to cover student recesses, marking the first time that students in primary schools, high schools, and technical vocational training (UTU) will have access to meals during the spring holidays.
This initiative is a collaborative effort between the National Administration of Public Education (ANEP) and the National Institute of Food (INDA), an agency under the Ministry of Social Development (MIDES). The goal is to ensure that the interruption of classes does not result in a loss of nutritional access for students.
The service will be available to students who previously expressed interest through surveys conducted by their educational centers. For the upcoming spring break, students can access meals at designated locations based on geographic proximity. This follows a similar extension implemented during the winter holidays, as part of a broader strategy to strengthen food security within the public education system.
