Uruguay football team sets up base in Cancun ahead of 2026 World Cup

The Uruguay national football team arrived on Wednesday morning at Cancun International Airport and moved to the Riviera Maya to begin its World Cup 2026 preparations. Led by coach Marcelo Bielsa, the 26‑player squad settled at the Fairmont Mayakoba resort, with training facilities in Cancun serving as their base for the group‑stage phase.

The team will compete in Group H with Saudi Arabia, Cape Verde and Spain, opening the tournament on 15 June against Saudi Arabia. Quintana Roo officials welcomed the delegation, noting the arrival elevates the region’s profile as a strategic World Cup venue.
