Uruguay halts heavy trucks, Chile reopens Torres del Paine trail as rains ease
The Intendencia of Florida in Uruguay has suspended the circulation of heavy vehicles on rural roads and unpaved urban streets from 06:00 on 1 August until 09:00 on 3 August. The restriction, based on recent heavy rainfall data from the Uruguayan Meteorological Institute (Inumet) and police reports, aims to protect road infrastructure and requires special permits for any heavy‑vehicle movement.
In Chile, the National Forest Corporation (CONAF) lifted the exceptional permit requirement for the "W" circuit in Torres del Paine National Park effective 1 August, after a temporary ban during June‑July. The park remains under winter regulations; hikers must register at CONAF checkpoints, use accredited guides, and stay informed about weather conditions.
