Uruguay implements security measures for major regional events
Authorities in Uruguay are deploying specialized security and transit operations for two major upcoming events. In Lavalleja, the Ministry of the Interior has organized a large-scale operation for the 53rd Semana de Lavalleja in the city of Minas. This deployment includes personnel from Florida, Maldonado, Treinta y Tres, and Cerro Largo, alongside the National Republican Guard. Measures include traffic controls, access restrictions to Parque Rodó and Cerro Artigas, and prohibitions on alcohol, glass bottles, pyrotechnics, and weapons to ensure safety during festivities and parades.
In Paysandú, a bilateral security plan between Uruguay and Argentina has been established for the visit of Pope Leo XIV from November 5 to 7. The operation involves reinforced migratory controls at the General Artigas international bridge and restrictions on freight transport to facilitate the movement of buses and private vehicles. Authorities recommend that transport companies reschedule cargo operations to reduce congestion in the Integrated Control Area. Special access arrangements are being made for the mass at Parque Municipal París Londres.
