Uruguay joins OECD program to assess adult skills

Uruguay has joined the OECD Programme for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies (PIAAC). This initiative aims to measure the literacy, numeracy, and problem-solving skills of adults aged 16 to 65.

Coordinated by the National Institute of Employment and Professional Training (INEFOP), the program will evaluate not only formal education levels but also the practical skills individuals can apply in the workforce. The assessment will collect data on educational backgrounds, work history, and social situations to identify skill gaps and training needs.

The implementation in Uruguay will follow a three-stage timeline: a pilot test and preparation phase in 2027, fieldwork in 2028, and the presentation of results in 2029. Participation in the PIAAC program does not imply Uruguay's membership in the OECD itself, but rather an adherence to its evaluation programs.
