Uruguay Ministry of Defense receives urgent report on military deaths

The Uruguayan Ministry of Defense has received an urgent report regarding the deaths of three Army personnel during a nighttime training exercise in Fray Bentos. The incident, which occurred on October 29 in the waters of the Uruguay River, also resulted in a fourth military member being transferred to the Armed Forces Central Hospital.

The Ministry stated that the report contains relevant technical elements that will inform an administrative investigation. For now, the contents of the document remain confidential to protect the administrative process and respect the families involved.

Senator Javier García has called for transparency regarding the circumstances of the tragedy, emphasizing the need to identify any failures to prevent future occurrences. He has requested that the President of the Senate Defense Commission coordinate with the Minister of Defense to provide information to the legislature. Meanwhile, the Attorney General's Office is conducting its own independent investigation into the event.
