Uruguay politicians criticised over foreign trips and domestic policy remarks

Senator Pedro Bordaberry of the Colorado Party visited Florida, Uruguay, where he joined a meeting of the party’s local sector. He raised issues on public‑company privatization, conditioning of child‑care transfers, public security, and the government’s budget and tax policies, saying the Colorado Party would not support the upcoming accountability report without fiscal reforms.

At the same time, about twenty legislators from the Colorado and National parties travelled to Israel on a parliamentary visit. While abroad they continued to receive their full salaries and a range of allowances, amounting to roughly 25,000 Uruguayan pesos per day per legislator, a practice criticised as a misuse of public funds.
