Uruguay poultry sector key to food sovereignty, says official

Matías Carámbula, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries, stated that the poultry sector is a vital component of Uruguay’s food sovereignty. Speaking at the 4th International Poultry Forum, Carámbula emphasized that the industry provides affordable protein for the population and plays a key role in job creation.

He noted that the sector has invested significantly in efficiency, productivity, and food safety. Carámbula highlighted the potential for growth through exports and expressed a commitment to supporting the industry's development. Regarding the request from the Uruguayan Chamber of Poultry Processors (Cupra) for a formal state policy, he indicated that existing tools already form part of a state policy focused on the care and projection of the sector.
