Uruguay River levels expected to decrease gradually
The Uruguay River is expected to maintain a downward trend over the next seven days downstream from the Salto Grande Hydroelectric Complex. Despite this gradual decrease, water levels will remain high, a condition characteristic of this season influenced by the strong El Niño phenomenon.
On Wednesday, October 14, estimated levels are approximately 11 meters in Concordia and 11.30 meters in Salto, values nearing alert thresholds. While the river is not expected to exceed alert levels during the coming week, authorities warn that El Niño continues to impact basin precipitation, meaning future rises cannot be ruled out.
In locations further south of the dam, the decline will be slower, influenced by southern winds and the level of the Río de la Plata. Meanwhile, the Salto Grande reservoir is projected to see a gradual rise in levels as part of the incoming water volume is retained, aiming to reach typical October values.
