Uruguay River rising poses navigation risks and economic threats

The Prefectura Naval Argentina has issued warnings regarding the extraordinary rising levels of the Uruguay River. In Mocoretá, authorities reported that the surge is carrying significant amounts of debris, including logs and branches, which pose a danger to vessels. Navigators are advised to travel at reduced speeds, maintain constant observation of the water, and avoid nighttime navigation due to limited visibility.

Additionally, a report from the Universidad Nacional de Entre Ríos (UNER) highlights the economic risks posed by the El Niño phenomenon and potential flooding of the Paraná and Uruguay rivers. The study identifies livestock, dairy farming, tourism, and coastal activities as highly vulnerable sectors. The report warns that the interconnected nature of provincial production chains could lead to broader complications in logistics, infrastructure, services, and employment.
