Dachshund puppies seized at Uruguay‑Argentina border bridge

During a routine customs inspection at the General Artigas international bridge linking Paysandú, Uruguay with Colón, Argentina, officials from the Uruguayan Dirección Nacional de Aduanas discovered twelve one‑month‑old Dachshund puppies and an adult female hidden inside a vehicle. The animals were being transported without the required veterinary documentation, vaccinations or health certificates, violating Uruguay’s sanitary entry regulations.

The dogs were placed under the custody of the Sanidad Animal division of Uruguay’s Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries (MGAP). They will remain under care while administrative procedures are completed, after which they may be transferred to the National Institute of Animal Welfare (INBA) for possible quarantine, vaccination and eventual placement with a protective organization. The driver claimed the animals were being moved because there was no one to look after them in his home.
