Uruguay student stabbed at Faculty of Medicine
A 19-year-old female student was stabbed at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of the Republic in Uruguay. The Ministry of the Interior reported that the attack occurred in the afternoon, and police seized a knife at the scene. The victim was treated for multiple wounds and is currently in stable condition.
A male student of the same age was arrested in an annex building of the faculty after being identified by witnesses as the aggressor. The case is being investigated by the Domestic Violence Crimes Prosecutor's Office as an attempted femicide. Authorities noted that the two students reportedly had no prior relationship.
In response to the incident, the University of the Republic has organized workshops and support spaces for students, faculty, and staff. These sessions, scheduled for early September, aim to provide a safe environment for reflection on gender-based violence and available support tools.
