Uruguay XXI promotes trade and investment in Rio de Janeiro
Uruguay XXI, the agency responsible for promoting Uruguay's investments and exports, held the ‘Day of Uruguay in Brazil’ event in Rio de Janeiro. Organized in partnership with the Uruguayan Consulate General, the event brought together Uruguayan officials, investors, and Brazilian business leaders to discuss commercial opportunities and investment flows.
Brazil serves as a primary strategic partner for Uruguay, accounting for approximately 15% of Uruguayan exports, valued at roughly US$ 2 billion annually. Furthermore, the accumulated stock of Brazilian capital in Uruguay has reached US$ 4.4 billion, representing 10% of the country's total foreign direct investment. Approximately 100 Brazilian companies operate in Uruguay, providing over 16,000 direct jobs across sectors such as agroindustry, finance, technology, and energy.
Mariana Ferreira, executive director of Uruguay XXI, noted that since 2024, Brazil has led the ranking of investment inquiries received by the agency, surpassing the United States and Argentina. In the first four months of 2026, interest from foreign investors increased by nearly 50%, with Brazil maintaining its leadership position.
