Former Danubio defender Walter Lima, known as “Bola”, concluded his playing career having become one of the most decorated players in the club’s history. He debuted in Uruguay’s Primera División in 2001 and helped Danubio win multiple titles, including the Apertura 2001, Clausura 2002, the 2004 championship double, the 2006/07 championship and the Apertura 2013, scoring 20 goals as the club’s highest‑scoring defender.
Lima earned 19 caps for the Uruguay senior national team, scoring twice, and also represented Uruguay at the U‑20 and U‑23 levels. His club career abroad included stints with Vélez Sarsfield, Rosario Central, Iraklis (Greece), Colón, Quilmes and Peñarol. After retiring, he served as Danubio’s sporting director from 2016 to 2017.
