Uruguayan education unions launch 24-hour strike

Education unions in Uruguay, including Sintep and the National Federation of Secondary Education Professors (Fenapes), have joined a 24-hour strike organized by the PIT-CNT. The protest, held under the slogan “sin transformaciones no hay avances” (without transformations there are no advances), coincides with the upcoming vote on the Accountability Law project in the Budget Commission of the Chamber of Deputies.

The labor action includes a partial strike from 9:00 to 13:00 and involves both public and private education sectors. Union leaders have expressed support for reducing the working day and a tax proposal aimed at taxing the wealthiest 1% of the population.
