Uruguayan labor and political groups mark major anniversaries

The PIT-CNT is conducting a series of commemorative activities to mark the 60th anniversary of the unity of the Convención Nacional de Trabajadores (CNT). Under the slogan “Construir el futuro desde los cimientos” (Building the future from the foundations), the program includes debates, assemblies, and cultural events across Montevideo and the interior of Uruguay.

The commemorations will conclude in October with two major events: a popular gathering on October 1st in front of the union headquarters on Jackson Street, and a gala at the Teatro Solís on October 3rd. Previous activities included a reflection session at the Universidad de la República regarding the historical convergence that led to the union's unity.

Separately, the Communist Party of Uruguay (PCU) is preparing to mark its 106th anniversary on September 21st. Using the slogan “Del pueblo al futuro” (From the people to the future), the party is highlighting its history of social struggle, internationalism, and anti-imperialism as part of its ongoing political identity.
