Uruguayan midfielder Nicolás Lodeiro announces retirement at 37

Uruguayan midfielder Nicolás Lodeiro, 37, confirmed he will retire from professional football. He informed the coaching staff and teammates at Club Nacional de Montevideo, ending his season early despite several matches remaining.

Lodeiro's career spanned clubs across South America, Europe and North America, including Ajax, Botafogo, Corinthians, Boca Juniors, Seattle Sounders, Orlando City, Houston Dynamo and Tigre. He won the 2011 Copa América with Uruguay, multiple league titles with Nacional, two Eredivisie championships with Ajax, and three MLS Cups with Seattle Sounders. Over 60 caps for the national team, he scored four goals and participated in the 2014 World Cup.
