Uruguayan Music Icon Rubén Rada Hospitalized with Bilateral Pneumonia
Uruguayan singer‑songwriter Rubén Rada, 83, was admitted to hospital with bilateral pneumonia. The veteran of candombe and a central figure in the Río de la Plata music scene has not yet had an official medical report released.
Rada, who underwent coronary angioplasty in 2015 and was previously hospitalized for high blood pressure in 2017, was preparing for a tour slated to begin in October. He had recently been active with a YouTube series and work on the reunion of his 1970s band Totem, which has concerts scheduled at Montevideo’s Sala Zitarrosa. His strong ties to Brazil were noted, but the hospitalization occurred in Uruguay.
