Uruguayan researchers launch study on daily life and work in Antarctica
The University of the Republic (Udelar) has launched a pioneering ethnographic research project titled ‘Imágenes en blanco: Etnografía de la vida cotidiana y del trabajo de los equipos uruguayos en la Antártida’. The study aims to explore how scientists, military personnel, and technicians organize their work and build a collective way of living in one of the world’s most isolated and hostile environments.
Organized by the Movyt group within the Institute of Health Psychology (IPSalud), the project combines health psychology and ethnography to understand the social dynamics of Antarctic stations. The project launch featured contributions from experts in health psychology and Antarctic research, including representatives from the Uruguayan Antarctic Institute and international academics from Spain, the United Kingdom, Luxembourg, and France.
