Uruguayan teacher training students protest new educational resolutions

Teacher training students in Uruguay are protesting against Resolution No. 3009/25 issued by the Central Directing Council of the National Administration of Public Education (CODICEN). Students from the Teacher Training Institute (IFD) in Minas have joined national movements to demand professionalization and a serious discussion regarding the value of teacher training, educational equity, and the future of the public education system.

In Carmelo, the Student Center of the IFD has criticized a recent virtual meeting organized by the Council for Teacher Training (CFE) regarding a new certification plan. Students claim the meeting was merely informative rather than a collaborative dialogue. They expressed concerns that the proposed plan could undermine the rigor and legitimacy of teaching credentials, using the slogan “No to cardboard titles” to emphasize their demand for high-quality training standards. The student collective is calling for a new, formal dialogue session to address their specific grievances.
