Uruguay's MGAP launches pest‑management project for Artigas growers

The Uruguayan Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries (MGAP) announced a new call for horticultural producers in the Artigas department to join the Regional Pest Management Project. According to agronomist Gonzalo Jauretche, the initiative offers permanent technical assistance, pest monitoring, and subsidies for biological inputs, aiming to cut agro‑chemical use by about 90 %. The program also seeks to expand its reach despite a shortage of specialized horticulture engineers.

In neighboring Argentina, the National Institute of Agricultural Technology (INTA) will hold a practical workshop in Cuadro Benegas, San Rafael, to train producers on pruning fruit trees and vines after recent hail damage. INTA extension chief Eliana García explained that the session, open without prior registration, will combine theory with field demonstrations to help growers reduce labor costs and improve crop resilience.
