Uruguay's Orsi clarifies status of HIF Global hydrogen project

President Yamandú Orsi has inaugurated new road infrastructure works on Route 4 in Paysandú, part of a larger $125 million regional project. The works aim to improve connectivity between several major routes and facilitate access to essential services.

Separately, the President addressed the status of the HIF Global green hydrogen plant project in Paysandú. While Orsi initially announced that a criminal complaint from Argentina had been withdrawn, the Presidency later clarified that this was a misunderstanding. Secretary Alejandro Sánchez noted that while some legal demands regarding visual pollution were resolved by relocating the plant to an Ancap site, the judicial action led by Argentine prosecutor Josefina Minatta remains active.

Despite the legal complexities, Orsi stated that the project continues, noting that UTE and HIF Global have reached closer agreement on pricing. The project represents an investment of over $5 billion.
