Urvashi Rautela defends Tiranga-inspired gown after backlash

Actress Urvashi Rautela has defended herself against social media backlash following her appearance at the Miss Universe India pageant in Jaipur. While serving as a judge, Rautela wore a couture gown designed by Belarusian designer Darya Chermashentseva that featured saffron, white, and green hues, along with a blue circular motif inspired by the Ashoka Chakra.

Critics on social media questioned the appropriateness of the outfit, suggesting the use of national flag colors and symbols on a garment that trailed on the floor might violate the Flag Code of India.

Rautela responded by describing the ensemble as a “theatrical, high-fashion homage” and an artistic expression of her identity. She maintained that the gown was a couture interpretation rather than a literal reproduction of the Indian national flag, noting significant differences between the design and the official flag.
