US 71 improvement project to begin in Bossier Parish

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) will begin a $7.9 million improvement project on US 71 (Barksdale Blvd) starting Monday, September 28. The project covers a 6.4-mile stretch extending from LA 3032 (Shreveport-Barksdale Hwy) to LA 612 (Sligo Rd) in south Bossier Parish.

Work includes full-depth repairs to strengthen the roadway base, milling to remove old asphalt, new asphalt paving on the northbound side, concrete panel replacements on the southbound side, and fresh roadway striping. Drivers should expect intermittent lane closures and potential delays during the construction process.

The project is expected to continue until early 2027, with the timeline subject to weather conditions and other factors. The improvements aim to enhance safety and travel experience along the US 71 corridor, a primary north-south route for the region.
