US Accelerates B-21 Raider Production and Plans Larger Pacific‑Capable Bomber Fleet

The U.S. Air Force’s new B-21 Raider stealth bomber is being prepared for sustained operations across the contested Indo‑Pacific theater. Forward arming and refueling concepts are central to the aircraft’s doctrine, allowing it to strike from dispersed locations and penetrate China’s integrated air‑defence network without waiting for prior suppression of enemy air defenses.

Northrop Grumman has signed a deal to increase annual B‑21 production capacity by 25 percent, potentially boosting output to as many as eight bombers per year. The agreement also gives the service flexibility to expand the planned fleet beyond the original 100‑aircraft program of record, a move under review by senior Air Force officials. CEO Kathy Warden indicated that a decision on a larger fleet could be made by year‑end, while Deputy Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. David Tabor confirmed that the fleet‑size analysis is ongoing in congressional hearings.
