Va’ Sentiero documentary chronicles 7,887-kilometer trek across Italy

The documentary “Va’ Sentiero,” directed by Andrea Buonopane, chronicles a massive trekking expedition along the Sentiero Italia. Spanning 7,887 kilometers from the Slovenian border to the Strait of Messina, the journey traversed the Alps, the Apennines, and various islands.

Conducted by the Va’ Sentiero association between 2019 and 2021, the trek involved seven young people and one retiree. The project evolved into a social and cultural endeavor, involving over 3,000 participants from 16 nations. The film highlights the realities of Italy’s highlands, including issues of depopulation, isolation, and the impact of the climate crisis, while showcasing territorial regeneration and local biodiversity.

Screenings are scheduled in Milan, Turin, and Rome starting in late October.
