US administration cancels health insurance for 760,000 people
The Trump administration has canceled health insurance coverage for more than 760,000 Americans linked to the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Federal officials confirmed that approximately 315,000 applications, affecting the aforementioned number of individuals, were annulled following an investigation into allegedly unauthorized registrations.
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) stated they worked with insurers to investigate suspicious marketplace activity. The administration characterized the move as a necessary strike against fraud and improper government spending. Officials expect the measure to result in the recovery of approximately $2.2 billion in premium tax credits.
Vice President JD Vance presented the action as part of a broader campaign to combat fraud within federal programs. The investigation includes scrutiny of citizenship, immigration status, income verification, and missing Social Security numbers. Data from CMS indicates that newly registered brokers have shown disproportionately high rates of unresolved issues regarding income and citizenship compared to those registered before 2026.
