The White House is considering a 90-day ban on diesel exports to prioritize domestic supply, according to reports. President Donald Trump indicated the intention to restrict outflows, a move that could significantly impact global markets as the United States provides over half of the diesel imported by Europe.

The proposal has met with internal disagreement and industry opposition. Energy Secretary Chris Wright suggested the administration may favor restrictions over a total ban to avoid complicating the refining process, noting that a sudden halt could inadvertently raise gasoline prices by forcing refineries to adjust production. The American Petroleum Institute has also voiced concerns, arguing that increased flexibility rather than new restrictions is needed to manage market stability.

In Europe, where diesel prices have reached approximately 2.39 euros per liter, the news has caused market volatility. In Italy, recent fuel price data shows only marginal fluctuations, with diesel averaging around 2.338 euros per liter for self-service, even as markets react to the potential supply disruption.
