Under a 2025 tax and spending law, ICE has been allocated $45 billion for detention capacity and over $29 billion for hiring, training, technology, and enforcement functions through 2029.

Data analyzed by the Guardian indicates that during most of 2025, only 23 percent of individuals placed in deportation proceedings had prior criminal convictions, with nearly half of those involving traffic or immigration offenses rather than violent crimes.
