U.S. advances national permitless carry bill, Supreme Court blocks Hawaii gun rule

In a separate development, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled 6‑3 in *Wolford v. Lopez* to strike down a 2023 Hawaii law that required gun owners to obtain permission before bringing firearms into private shops and other public businesses. Writing for the conservative majority, Justice Samuel Alito said the law “severely hampers” Second Amendment rights, while Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson dissented, noting that the Constitution does not guarantee a right to carry guns onto private property without consent.
