US offers $25 million reward for Juan Carlos González, leader of Mexico’s CJNG cartel
The U.S. State Department announced a $25 million reward—up from $5 million—for information leading to the capture of Juan Carlos González, a dual U.S.–Mexican citizen born in Santa Ana, California, in 1984. González, known as “Pelón,” is the stepson of the slain cartel boss Nemesio Rubén Oseguera Cervantes (“El Mencho”) and has taken control of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) after El Mencho’s death in February.
The Trump administration has pledged a total of $100 million in rewards for various CJNG leaders and has imposed visa restrictions on their families and associates. It also sanctioned 50 individuals and companies linked to the cartel, freezing assets and blocking U.S. financial transactions. The CJNG is designated a foreign terrorist organization by the United States.
The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) listed González as its number‑one most‑wanted fugitive, offering a reward of up to $25 million for information leading to his arrest. The cartel is involved in drug trafficking, avocado production and other illicit activities across Mexico and the United States.
