US Air Force awards major contracts for AMRAAM and hypersonic missiles

The United States Air Force has finalized significant contracts for advanced missile systems. A $20.7 billion contract was awarded to Raytheon for the production of AIM-120 AMRAAM air-to-air missiles. This agreement covers production lots 41 through 47 and is expected to sustain operations at the Tucson, Arizona facility until June 2030. The missiles will support the Air Force, the Navy, and international customers through Foreign Military Sales, providing long-range capabilities for platforms such as the F-15, F-16, F-22, and F-35.

Additionally, the Air Force has awarded Lockheed Martin a $694 million contract for the production of AGM-183A Air-launched Rapid Response Weapon (ARRW) hypersonic missiles. This marks the formal transition of the boost-glide hypersonic program from prototyping and flight testing into active production. The Air Force intends to integrate these high-speed strike options onto aircraft such as the B-52 and B-1 bombers.
