US Air Force launches North Star campaign for B-52 and B-1 bombers
The United States Air Force has launched the ‘North Star Readiness Campaign’ to increase the operational availability of its B-52H Stratofortress and B-1B Lancer strategic bomber fleets. Coordinated by the Air Force Global Strike Command, the Air Force Materiel Command, and the Defense Logistics Agency, the initiative aims to reduce logistical delays and maintenance downtime.
The campaign focuses on optimizing supply chains, maintenance processes, and technical support to ensure long-range strike capabilities remain ready for global operations. By conducting daily tactical assessments, personnel aim to identify component shortages and technical bottlenecks more rapidly. Some urgent parts deliveries that previously took over a week are now being completed in approximately two to three days.
In related developments, the Air Force is also maintaining B-2 Spirit operations while transitioning to the new B-21 Raider. A $4.5 billion agreement with Northrop Grumman will increase B-21 production, with the first stealth bomber expected to be delivered in 2027.
