Air Force member dies after falling during Alamodome demonstration

A United States Air Force service member has died following a fatal fall during a pregame military demonstration at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. The incident occurred during the ‘Salute to Armed Forces and Veterans’ ceremony held before a college football game between the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) and the U.S. Navy.

The service member, a member of Detachment 2 of the 6th Combat Training Squadron based at Nellis Air Force Base, was participating in a fast-rope demonstration. Witnesses and social media footage indicate the individual lost control while descending from the stadium rafters, which reach heights of approximately 170 feet, and struck the field. Medical personnel provided immediate on-site treatment for approximately 10 minutes before the individual was transported to a local hospital, where they later succumbed to their injuries.

The accident caused a roughly 10-minute delay to the game kickoff. UTSA officials have activated wellbeing services to support students, faculty, and staff emotionally affected by the event. The Air Force has launched an investigation into the circumstances of the fall. The identity of the deceased has not yet been released.
