U.S. Airlines Raise Checked‑Bag Fees and Cut Basic Economy Benefits

Southwest Airlines ended its long‑standing “Bags Fly Free” policy on May 28 2025, now charging about $45 for a first checked bag. American Airlines followed, increasing domestic checked‑bag fees by $10 to $50 for the first bag, $60 for the second, and $200 for a third.
