US airstrikes on Iran trigger Iranian missile and drone attacks on Gulf bases

The United States carried out a new wave of airstrikes targeting Iranian command centres, air‑defence systems, missile launch sites, drone warehouses and coastal installations, including strikes on Bandar Abbas and a 90‑minute operation on the Great Tunb island. The attacks were ordered by President Donald Trump to limit Iran’s ability to threaten shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.

Hours later Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard launched coordinated drone and missile attacks against the U.S. Al Al Salem air base in Kuwait and triggered air‑defence alarms in Bahrain. Iranian health officials reported at least 35 deaths and more than 300 injuries from the U.S. strikes. Simultaneously, the U.S. Navy imposed a naval blockade around Iranian ports; two commercial vessels altered course, while the Kuwaiti‑flag tanker M/T Belma ignored warnings and was detained by U.S. forces. President Trump said Tehran had sought a diplomatic meeting, indicating the conflict could remain volatile.
