U.S. Amateur quarterfinals underway at Merion Golf Club

The 126th U.S. Amateur at Merion Golf Club has reached the quarterfinals, narrowing the field to eight elite competitors competing for the Havemeyer Trophy and exemptions into major championships.

Jay Leng Jr. has emerged as a dominant force, entering the quarterfinals with a seven-round unbeaten streak in match play. Other notable performers include Englishman Jack Whaley, who is seeking to impress Walker Cup selectors, and Brandon Knight.

In a significant match, Carter Loflin defeated Brandon Knight 3 & 2 to advance to the semifinals. The victory was also a milestone for Loflin’s caddy, Jack Hopkins, a longtime Merion caddy who has worked at the club since age 12. Hopkins received widespread recognition from club members and fellow caddies following the win.
