U.S. Ambassador Eric Wendt to hold diplomatic reception in Tirana

The U.S. Embassy in Tirana has begun distributing invitations for a diplomatic reception scheduled for October 2 to mark the arrival of the new U.S. Ambassador, Eric Wendt.

Wendt brings an extensive military and security background to his role. A Lieutenant General who joined the U.S. Army in 1986, his career includes service as a Special Forces and Green Beret officer. He has held various international assignments, including roles in Indonesia, the Philippines, Iraq, and Afghanistan, and previously served as the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense.

The upcoming reception is expected to be Wendt’s first broad public contact with Albanian political, business, and institutional leaders. The guest list includes parliamentary group leaders, ministers, and heads of judicial institutions such as SPAK and the Supreme Court. There is significant political interest regarding whether Democratic Party leader Sali Berisha will be included in the invitations, following his recent travel to the United States.
