US Ambassador highlights strengthening defense ties with Cyprus

US Ambassador to Cyprus John Breslow has expressed optimism regarding the future of defense and military cooperation between the United States and Cyprus. Speaking from the deck of the USS Roosevelt in Limassol, Breslow noted that the bilateral defense cooperation roadmap for 2024–2029 is already well underway and progressing effectively.

Key developments under the current five-year roadmap include plans to expand facilities at Paphos airport and the implementation of the Cyclops program. The Cyclops program, a US-funded training center in Cyprus, facilitates training in specialized areas such as cybersecurity and border security, primarily with support from the New Jersey National Guard.

Breslow indicated a desire to see the roadmap renewed beyond its current term, describing the partnership as pioneering for both nations. He also highlighted the significance of recent US naval presence, including the visit of the USS Roosevelt to Limassol.
