US Ambassador highlights strengthening ties with Cyprus

At the Cyprus Forum in Nicosia, US Ambassador John Breslow described US-Cyprus relations as being in their best period to date, noting that the interests and objectives of both nations are closely aligned. Breslow highlighted significant opportunities for cooperation in energy, security, and innovation, while also noting that US companies could contribute heavily to the Cypriot economy.

However, the Ambassador identified bureaucratic hurdles as a major obstacle to investment, suggesting that simplifying processes and addressing certain EU regulations could improve prosperity for both parties. He also reaffirmed US support for a solution to the Cyprus problem based on a bizonal, bicommunal federation with political equality, in line with UN Security Council resolutions.

Germany’s Chargé d’Affaires, Mirko Kruppa, emphasized that anyone seeking to control the Eastern Mediterranean must cooperate with Cyprus. He noted that the island's division has caused energy exploration efforts to stall and stressed the urgency of finding a solution to the Cyprus problem.
