US Ambassador Kimberly Gilfill visits Ormylia Monastery in Greece

U.S. Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Gilfill visited the Holy Monastery of Ormylia and the adjacent Ormylia Foundation in Halkidiki. During the tour she met the abbot Elissaios, Dr. Doumas, brother Charlie, and Gerontissa Nikodimi with the nuns. Gilfill praised the institution’s blend of preventive medical care and spiritual support, calling it a “beautiful example of compassion in action.”

The Ormylia Foundation offers free breast‑cancer, cervical‑cancer, and gynecological screenings and is part of the Global Breast Health Initiative and U.S. National Cancer Institute networks. Gilfill highlighted long‑standing collaborations between American medical centers—Lombardi Cancer Center, Georgetown University, Penn State and Emory University—and the foundation, emphasizing the strength of U.S.–Greek cooperation in health and humanitarian work.
