US Ambassador Michel Issa confirms support for Lebanese Army
US Ambassador to Lebanon Michel Issa confirmed that a conference to support the Lebanese Army remains scheduled and continues to receive United States backing. Issa noted that several American figures are expected to participate in the event.
Addressing the current escalation, Issa stated that Washington recognizes the Lebanese Army lacks the practical capacity to confront Hezbollah directly due to the group's missile capabilities. However, he emphasized that the military institution remains capable of performing other essential missions and that the US expects the army to be more effective within its existing means.
During an annual celebration in Awkar, Issa also discussed his recent visit to the Supreme Shia Council, describing it as positive and an opportunity for mutual exchange of views. He clarified that his role as ambassador involves communicating with all parties without sectarian distinction, though he denied that his visit was intended to open direct dialogue with Hezbollah.
