President Nicușor Dan stresses US‑Romania partnership amid ongoing government formation talks

President Nicușor Dan opened the exhibition “USA‑Romania. History, diplomacy and the road to democracy”, noting that the bilateral partnership is “more solid than ever”. He recalled the 1880 letter confirming Romania’s independence, the 1997 Clinton visit and recent NATO summit cooperation, emphasizing shared values and security interests.

Dan also addressed Romania’s political deadlock. He declined to name a premier, explaining that the Constitution limits the president’s role and that a government can only be formed when parties reach a parliamentary majority. He described informal consultations with PSD, PNL, USR and UDMR and reiterated that the PSD remains in opposition. The president fielded questions about nicknames such as “PSDan” and “PeSeDan”, responding that his decisions are guided by his mandate and the national interest rather than party affiliation.
