US Ambassador proposes making Japan a drone production hub
US Ambassador to Japan George Glass has proposed establishing Japan as a drone production hub for the Indo-Pacific region. Speaking at the ‘Mount Fuji Meeting’ co-hosted by the Japan Center for Economic Research and the Japan Institute of International Affairs, Glass stated that the next successful area for US-Japan cooperation should be the drone industry.
He emphasized combining American technological expertise with Japanese manufacturing capabilities to strengthen deterrence. This proposal comes amid shifting warfare dynamics, such as those seen in the Ukraine conflict, where low-cost drones are increasingly used to target expensive military equipment.
Following the remarks, Japanese stocks related to the sector saw significant movement, with companies like Terra Drone and Howa Machinery experiencing price surges.
