U.S. Ambassador Ronald Johnson lauds Mexico‑US partnership, highlights $518 million drug bust
U.S. Ambassador Ronald Johnson sent a congratulatory message to President Claudia Sheinbaum on her birthday, reaffirming the continuity of bilateral cooperation between Mexico and the United States. He highlighted the strength of trade and infrastructure agreements, noting that daily commercial exchanges exceed $2 billion and that existing mechanisms under the USMCA remain active.
Johnson also announced a joint law‑enforcement operation that seized 24,400 liters of liquid methamphetamine in Los Mochis, Sinaloa. The raid also uncovered nearly 99,000 liters of chemicals, vehicles, long‑gun accessories and ammunition, causing an economic loss estimated at over 9 billion pesos (about $518 million) for criminal groups. A related seizure of 43,000 ammunition cartridges was made at the Mariposa port of entry in Arizona, illustrating continued Mexico‑US collaboration against drug trafficking and organized crime.
