US Ambassador Sergio Gor visits Golden Temple in Amritsar

US Ambassador Sergio Gor visited the Golden Temple in Amritsar on Monday as part of a 28-member American delegation that included senators and foreign policy experts. The visit, part of a broader outreach program, aimed to strengthen ties with the Punjab region and its significant diaspora. During the visit, Gor was welcomed by Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) President Harjinder Singh Dhami and Akal Takht acting jathedar Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj.

During the visit, reports indicated that protesters outside the shrine's entrance raised slogans including ‘Khalistan Zindabad’ and ‘God Bless America’. Security personnel intervened to manage the situation.

Emaan Singh Mann, Acting President of the Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar), stated the visit was a significant opportunity to discuss issues such as Sikh rights, religious freedom, and India-Pakistan relations. Mann also highlighted concerns regarding the Indus Waters Treaty, cross-border smuggling, and the economic potential of opening the India-Pakistan border for trade and pilgrimage.
