US Ambassador Waltz says door is open for Iran negotiations

US Ambassador to the United Nations Mike Waltz stated that the “door is open” for Iran to return to negotiations to end the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. Speaking at an Al-Monitor Live event in New York during the UN General Assembly, Waltz suggested that the Trump administration believes time is on its side, noting that the Iranian regime is currently at its “weakest point since 1979” due to economic pressures and the collapse of its currency.

Waltz dismissed reports that Tehran has demanded the removal of US sanctions or reparations as prerequisites for renewed talks, calling such claims “fantastical.” He expressed hope that Iran would return to the negotiating table peacefully and diplomatically.

Regarding Gaza, Waltz discussed a 20-point plan that includes a Palestinian technocratic administration, reconstruction efforts, and an International Stabilization Force. He noted that implementation talks with Israel could proceed following Israel’s parliamentary elections on October 27. Additionally, Waltz mentioned that prospective members are interested in joining the Abraham Accords to normalize relations with Israel.
